I have
never been a big reader so I usually only read the books that were extremely
popular at the time. My favorite series throughout my childhood into
adolescence was probably Harry Potter. It’s been so long since I have read them
that I am not even really sure which one was my favorite but I think it was the
fourth book.
I think
one reason I liked these books was because they got me to go out of my natural
reading comfort zone to read more than I otherwise would have. With that said,
I did not even finish out the whole series—I only read up until the fifth book.
However, that was pretty impressive for me considering that I never picked up a
book for pleasure before that time and even when I was required to read a book,
I often turned to SparkNotes instead.
Harry
Potter was a book that I was able to connect with my sister and my mom with. I
remember them anticipating each book’s release date with such excitement. My
sister was the kind of person that purchased the book the day it was released
and ate, slept and dreamt Harry Potter until she was finished with it (which
was typically the following day). I definitely did not get that excited but she
would encourage me to continue reading them because of her enthusiasm for what
was happening in the series. It was something that my sister and my mom and I
would enjoy sitting around talking about. I haven't really had an experience like that with a book since then. Although, I look forward to doing that with my husband and my kids someday.
