Sexual promiscuity anyone?
Tonight we watched a little Boy Meets World. Jake got the first two seasons for Christmas (from my very thoughtful mother) and he already had the next two. Since Christmas, every spare moment has been devoted to going through them. Season four is where we're at now. I was really surprised and impressed with the episode we watched tonight.
Topanga and Cory have been dating for several years now and have only ever reached the point of kissing. As soon as Cory gets the idea that his best friend Shawn is having sex with a girl (wrong by the way), he thinks that his and Topanga's relationship should move to that next level. Good news--they decide against it! Cory's brother Eric gives Cory some spiel about how having sex before you're ready is liking falling off a bike without training wheels and breaking your head open...They could have probably gone into more meaningful and serious reasons why having sex before marriage is a bad idea, but hey, what can you expect out of a show for teenagers? (And why is it that we've passed that stage and we're still watching this show?)
Maybe I have a terrible outlook on today's world and media in particular, but I am pretty sure that if this show was on today, they'd be doing it for sure! I was so impressed. Now I don't remember what the world's standards for sexual promiscuity were in the 90s when this show aired, but I'm pretty sure they were similar to today. So Boy Meets World producers, I am officially impressed. Jake went on to tell me that they actually don't even have sex until they're married. Now that I know was peculiar for the 90s!
I must add though, it would be very hard to avoid the temptation of the next level by the way Cory and Topanga kiss. I swear every episode they're making out in front of whoever is around! It's easy to say that kissing is okay before marriage but sex is not, but if you're going to teach that, you should probably teach what sort of things you should avoid in order to keep from being tempted.
Since I never really grew up watching this show, I haven't been that into it so far. But after this particular episode, I'm kind of excited for the sequel to this show they're supposedly coming it with. In a world of decaying morals, I'm interested to see if they'll even try to teach sexual morality in the next one. I hope they do. Guess we'll have to wait and see...These types of shows give me a little glimmer of hope for the world. I like those moments :)

we loved watching this show when I was growing up (mostly the earlier seasons) but we loved it- especially the neighbor teacher who is grumpy (i forget his name?). One thought I had was how they used to make a lot of shows about growing up, Full House, Saved By the Bell, Growing Pains, 7th Heaven, Even Stevens, Even way back with The Wonder Years...these kids grew up, literally, making television shows (which probably isn't the best for the kids)...the only examples of this kind of TV is the Harry Potter Series....I wonder if Hollywood saw how many of the child stars were turning out and decided to stop making shows like this...or seasons just don't last as long.
